On July 15, Geisinger learned that Berwick Hospital filed a 90-day notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) expressing their intent to close and reopen as a psychiatric and behavioral health facility. The plan has since been rejected by PADOH, and Berwick Hospital officials intend to resubmit a revised plan. Additionally, on July 22, three nearby clinics owned by Berwick Hospital abruptly closed with no notice to staff or patients.
