Resuming Medicaid Eligibility

At the beginning of the pandemic, Medicaid agencies paused member eligibility reviews so members could keep their health care benefits. As you have heard, states are now resuming eligibility determinations. Millions of Americans are expected to be found ineligible for coverage, and this will impact some of Molina's D-SNP beneficiaries. Molina is taking important steps to assist both those eligible and ineligible for renewal.

Collaboration with state Medicaid agencies:

Eligibility redetermination schedules will vary by state. Some states have already begun the process, while others will begin later this year. Associates on Molina's Medicaid teams are working with:

• Medicaid agencies in member states to make the transition as smooth as possible in order to ensure that eligible members are not removed accidentally.
• State and community organizations to do outreach that maintains insurance coverage for the most vulnerable populations.

Collaboration with state health plans:

Molina’s Customer Experience and Marketing teams are working with each state health plan to prepare collateral that:

• Reminds members Medicaid eligibility will be up for renewal, and
• Addresses the ineligible: if they no longer qualify, they will be offered Marketplace or other Medicare options, where applicable.

Your role as a broker: 

• Remind your D-SNP beneficiaries to keep their contact information current with their state Medicaid agency, so they can receive their Medicaid renewal information.
• Emphasize to your D-SNP beneficiaries that they must complete and return this paperwork or they will be disqualified from Medicaid.
• If any of your D-SNP members do not requalify for Medicaid, they will need your help to enroll in another Medicare plan.
• Be sure to read each weekly issue of Molina Matters and other important Molina Medicare bulletins, to stay abreast of future developments regarding redeterminations.
