Cigna Healthcare will start paying commissions on their full line of Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) starting with the 2024 Annual Enrollment Period (AEP).
In preparation for this exciting change, Cigna wants to provide you with an overview of how this may impact you.
Cigna Healthcare will pay commissions and admin fees on all three of our 2024 plans. You can expect to learn more in August when 2024 plan designs are finalized and distributed.
Since premiums depend on the CMS subsidy, there will be more details on this available for you in August.
Contracting for PDP will run through Cigna Healthcare MAPD contract and hierarchy. Existing MAPD agents do not need to re-contract to sell PDP since their existing MAPD contract will cover PDP.
A standalone PDP contract will not be offered. Agents need to obtain a Cigna Healthcare MAPD/PDP contract through one of Cigna's existing MAPD partners even if they are only licensed in a state where Cigna Healthcare does not offer MAPDs. These agents will only need to complete the PDP annual certification, not the MAPD annual certification.
Contracting is now available in states that are not currently part of Cigna Healthcare's MAPD footprint.
CSB Agents: Agents contracted to only sell CSB will need to obtain a Cigna Healthcare MAPD/PDP contract through one of Cigna's existing MAPD partners.
New Agents: Newly contracted agents in an existing MAPD state must complete certification for MAPD within 90 days of submitting a contracting packet or their packet will be closed.
There will be no changes in the process of appointments. Agents in JIT states will be appointed when they make their first 2024 plan year PDP sale (starting with 2024 AEP). Agents in non-JIT states will be pre-appointed, similar to the process for MA.
In order to be considered 'Ready-to-Sell' Cigna Healthcare PDPs, agents will need to complete the 2024 certification.
States that offer Cigna Healthcare MAPD and PDP: Contracted agents licensed in one of our MA states will need to complete the 2024 MAPD certification. A standalone PDP certification is not available.
States that only offer Cigna Healthcare PDP: Contracted agents licensed only in states where Cigna Healthcare MAPD products are not offered will need to complete the standalone PDP 2024 certification. They will not be required to take the MA certification unless they become licensed in a Cigna Healthcare MA state.
New Agents: Newly contracted agents in an existing MAPD state will need to complete the 2024 MAPD certification within 90 days of submitting their contracting packet or the packet will be closed.
A new version of the ROE which includes details on PDPs is now available in Producers' University. Additional details on PDP compensation will be available in the updated ROE around October 1, 2023.
