UnitedHealthcare UCard® Healthy Foods/OTC credit in Tennessee

The changes in Tennessee have been identified as a frequently asked question and UnitedHealthcare wants to make sure agents are aware in case there are questions.

The below message has been sent to all TN agents who have recently written DSNP business:

Starting Jan. 1, 2025,  there will be changes to how UnitedHealthcare D-SNP members in Tennessee will be able to use their UCard® credits.

Changes include:

  • Members will no longer be able to use their UCard to pay for utilities.
  • Members will be able to continue using their UCard to buy covered healthy food if they have a qualifying condition and their provider submits a verification form.

Reminder: Members can view their Annual Notice of Change for more information.

How UnitedHealthcare is helping

To support, they attempting to pre-qualify D-SNP members for the healthy food benefit for the 2025 plan year. If they cannot pre-qualify a member, that member can ask their provider to fill out the benefit verification form on pages 31-32 of the 2025 Enrollment Guide (with form). You can order the “2025 Enrollment Guide (with form)” on the Sales Materials Portal on Jarvis.

What you need to do

  • Ensure your member qualifies for their plan by double checking in the Medicare & Medicaid verification tool on Jarvis.
  • Encourage your member to have their provider promptly submit the verification form so they can access the healthy food benefit if they qualify.

For more information

To learn all the qualifying conditions and the verification process, please refer to the “Additional Benefit Verification” and the “Additional Benefit Release of Information” forms within the 2025 Enrollment Guide (with form) on the Sales Materials Portal. To view information on approved healthy food and OTC products, check out the quick reference guide on Jarvis.

Thank you for helping members understand these changes and access the healthy food benefit.

Benefits, features and/or devices may vary by plan/area. Limitations, exclusions and/or network restrictions may apply. Food and OTC benefits have expiration timeframes. The healthy food benefit is a special supplemental benefit only available to chronically ill enrollees with a qualifying condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic and disabling mental health conditions, diabetes and/or cardiovascular disorders, and who also meet all applicable plan coverage criteria. There may be other qualified conditions not listed. Contact us for details
