Important updates made to the UPMC for Life Flex Spend Card for 2025

To keep the total Flex Spend Card allowance stable, UPMC for Life has added an additional bucket and new services. This allows members to have dedicated dollars for specific health care supports they need.

Here are the features and updates to the Flex Spend Card for 2025:

• NEW! There will now be TWO allowance buckets: one for dental, vision, and hearing care and the other for medical service costs, fitness, OTC products, and home safety products.
• NEW! Members can now use their card to pay for premier fitness locations, a fitness kit, and home safety products.
• Members cannot use unspent allowance dollars from one purse to pay for items or services included in the other purse.
• The Flex Spend Card allowance is in addition to the dental and vision allowances members already get with their plan.
• This is a yearly allowance, not quarterly allowance. It will not roll over from year to year.
• If a member switches to a different UPMC for Life plan in the middle of the year, they will have access to the full Flex Spend Card yearly allowance on their new plan.
